Culture Test Result
Positive
A culture test detects the presence of living bacteria. The health department has overseen the disinfection of all cooling towers in the affected area.
New York City's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene makes an effort to inspect all cooling towers once a year. As of May 2026, building owners are required to test their towers for Legionella every 31 days while they're turned on. The previous requirement was every 90 days.
