Positive

A positive PCR test detects the presence of living or dead bacterial DNA and does not definitively indicate heightened risk to the surrounding area.

New York City's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene makes an effort to inspect all cooling towers once a year.

As of May 2026, building owners are required to test their towers for Legionella every 31 days while they're turned on. The previous requirement was every 90 days.
